BEFORE READING BE SURE YOU HAVE:

As these results might not apply if you're missing the bicycle (but they probably will) and the power level doesnt even show if you don't have the achievement.

I will assume you read this and have both before you say i made a mistake.

So i did a bit of research because i wanted to know what the "power level" exactly is.

I made an excel file in which i kept track of level gain, steps taken, exp/level class, power lvl gain, etc, etc, etc.

The result was that when you deposit a pokemon in the PokéWalker a random number between 120-180 gets generated. This number will be the Experience every step in the pokewalker will give to your pokemon. This applies to all pokemon, legendary or common, needing 2.000.000 exp for level 100 or 800.000 exp.

Maybe you still don't really know how this tells what the Power level has to do with this:
-When the random number is 120, the relation Power Level gain-real level gain will be 1:1
-When the random number is 180, the relation Power Level gain-real level gain will be 1:1.5

When you know what level you want your pokemon to be you can predict what power level it has to be:
Minimum Power Level=Current level+(2/3*real level gain desired)
Maximum Power Level=Current Level+real level gain desired

so when you have a pokemon of level 1 and you want to level it up to level 100
Min power=1+(2/3*99)=67
max power=100

so the power level has to be between 67-100 depending on the random number generated when you put your pokémon in the walker

This depends on the Exp class of the pokemon. if i miss a class just point it out please.

once again the exact steps needed will be a number between these two numbers depending on the random number generated when you put your pokemon in the walker.

Exp for lvl 100- min steps needed per lvl-max steps needed per lvl

600,000 - 33.33-50
800,000 - 44.44-66.67
1,000,000 - 55.56-83.33
1,059,900 - 58.88-88.33
1,250,000 - 69.44-104.17
1,640,000 - 91.11-136.67
2,000,000 - 111.11-166.67

so you can multiply those numbers with the number of levels you want to gain to get the number of steps needed.

For lvl 100 the pokemon need this amount of steps (provided they're lvl 1, number of steps is rounded UP):

600,000 - 3.300 - 4.950
800,000 - 4.400 - 6.600
1,000,000 - 5.500 - 8.250
1,059,900 - 5.830 - 8.745
1,250,000 - 6.875 - 10.313
1,640,000 - 9.020 - 13.530
2,000,000 - 11.000 - 16.500

I know the data isnt exactly a straight line like it should be but that's because taking steps gives you digital data, not discrete (like you can't take 2.35 steps, only 3 or 2) so it rounds stuff up and down randomly plus i rounded estimated power levels to whole numbers,

For some reason, this sounds kinda tl;dr-ish, but I'll just say that this is a bit helpful especially when I gotta work on the Badge achievements. (Note to self: Remove Pokémon from Pokéwalker once the Scouter says it's at Level 75)

I don't think it's directly level to level. My pokemon that need 6k a level seem to level up far quicker in the pokewalker than, say, something needing 1059860; something I noticed quite prominently while I levelled my shinies recently. And at the extreme other end of the spectrum, Feral Zergoose takes extremely long to level in the walker, corresponding to its 2400000 total experience; as in, I've done over 9000 steps and only gotten about fifty levels out of it. (This was after I got the initial over 9k achievement.)

I put my other feral zergoose in today, and it took about 450 steps to make it increase a 'power level'. In contrast, pokemon normally seem to increase a level between 80 and 120 steps.

Edit: lawl misread. Thought you said every pokemon automatically needed 120 to 180 steps to level. My bad, disregard.

I just replace my pokmeon in the pokewalker every 1k steps anyway, yay for items.

I just tend to do what Tyranisaur does lol. Or when I just feel like enough is enough. Usually if it's a 10k and Under pokémon I usually find about 4-5k in the Walker does it (or pretty close to it) and anything over 10k would obviously be longer.

Mix between the both. Either way interesting all the same.

All the Bicycle does is multiply the number of steps by 1.5, so why exactly is that necessary for this?

well i never tested this without one and as i'm a biology student i've learned you can never assume something based on results of a different test

But I can see how the formula could be useful. I always wondered why sometimes my Pokemon jumped in level when I took them out (compared to the scouter level). I just assumed that it was because I hadn't waited long enough for all of the interactions to be factored in... Cool ^^

Not that I know of. Neither is it, to my knowledge, affected by multiplier days (unfortunately).

sorry but i was gone for a week but i think it idnt affected by either either (never seen any correlation )
