1000 Years Ago… (click to show)

The land of Furoh was abuzz with the coming of the largest trainer gathering in ages. PokeCon, as it was called, marked the occasion when the first immigrant trainers gathered together on Starfall Field. There, they shared their stories and trade secrets, as well as held pokemon battles. More significantly, it is said that the modern boundaries and cities were first drafted at this spot. In the spirit of commemorating such a gathering, organizers sought to recreate the scene on a much grander scale.

They were on the verge of realizing their dream.

As the afternoon drew closer to darkness, activity was ever increasing at Starfall Field. Amongst the meteorite-strewn grassland, building crews were rushing to finish the remaining facilities for tomorrow’s festivities. Already, breeders had set up pens for their litters of baby pokemon to play around in. Some even brought incubators for their eggs. Also tabling were various pokemarts, suppliers, clubs, and other organizations, eager to pass out all sorts of free samples. This included brochures, pens, trail mix, berries, and much more. Despite the numerous tables to visit, a few stood out.

The “Sky Ranch” table was unique because it not only offered some of the finest specimens of bird pokemon, it also recycled their feathers to produce an exquisite line of feather pens. Each was designed like a ballpoint pen to allow for portability for enthusiastic trainers. Their finest piece: a pen made from a delicate piece of an altaria’s cloud. Its wispy appearance would surely not last long with all the eager trainers around.

There was also an artisan who was making glass statues at the fair. With the help of his charmeleon and magmar, he was able to produce a variety of vases on site, though the more popular items were glass pendants in abstract shapes of pokemon. Representatives from Baccate were on hand to provide a variety of berries in the form of trail mix, dried fruits, juice, and just plain old berries. Nurse Joy was on hand inside an inflatable pokemon center, similar to a moon bounce (without the bounce). All of this was in the midst of a very large buffet, the smell of cooked meat, sides, and deserts emanating over the grounds. This was just a taste of the variety offered to visitors.

There was a reason these organizations were here so early: the trainers were arriving just as early to claim the best camping spots. Though the event provided complimentary tents and sleeping bags, many trainers had brought their own. The field was dotted with a variety of colored tents. Most trainers loved to show off their origins, placing flags and décor from their home countries. A grass trainer had painstakingly covered her tent with ornamental flowers and foliage. A group of water trainers had set up kiddie pools for their pokemon to play around in. The dragon trainers of Blackthorn, eager to show their superiority, had gathered together and painted dragon tattoos on the sides of their abodes. Already, the contest of who could be the very best had begun before pokeballs were even drawn.

People weren’t the only visitors at this festival however. Scattered throughout the grounds were absols, the infamous prophets of doom. Though normally keeping to themselves, the dark pokemon were making great efforts in getting themselves seen by humans. One was bold enough to sit in a circle of conversing trainers, staying there until the humans noticed him. A pair had stood watch over the proceedings on top of one of the van-sized meteorites. Most of the others were simply roaming around, making no effort to keep hidden. It was as if they wanted everyone to see them.

It was this phenomenon that had sent Pandora Gibbs on a detour from Petropolis to Starfall Field. Professor Stone was eager to learn why such a large gathering of absol was happening at this place and time. Pan knew full well not to put too much faith in superstition, but it was also something to keep in mind.

The researcher sat upon her arcanine Fenrir as she aimed her camera towards several absol. She made special effort to capture scenes in which the absol were interacting with humans. Just as she was surveying the area, a magnemite zoomed just past her head. Apparently, the magnet pokemon of many trainers were unusually active, flying around like madmen. Pan managed to catch a few pictures of the rogue magnemite, but was a bit more interested in the people. They came from all over Furoh and even from around the world. It brought back memories of her adventure at Castle Vonmoto.

“Maybe we’ll meet some old friends, Fenrir,” Pan said to the arcanine. The large dog pokemon simply looked up to his human.

Meanwhile, Pan’s other pokemon weren’t far behind Pan. The pachirisu Chi-Chi was setting the final touch on their red tent: a small flag with the vileplume emblem of Celadon High. It was once a car flag given out at a fundraiser a few years back; Pan took advantage of the many computer stations available at PokeCon and took it from her item box. The venusaur Turnip was napping next to the structure, taking a break from being guard dog. The baltoy Pivot was performing its best demonstration of planetary rotation, spinning around the tent in a perfect circle. The last pokemon, however, was too entranced by the smells from the buffet to stick around the tent.

“Lima?!” Pan gasped as she spotted the chubby cleffa with her camera lens. The baby pokemon was sniffing peoples’ food, sometimes even grabbing samples, as she headed towards the motherload of dinner tables. Pan urged her arcanine forward, navigating the crowds in order to get to Lima before she got into too much trouble.

Laughing at Lima's antics, Douken stood there, enjoying the sites of so many trainers. This was a completely different feeling form Castle Vonmoto, that was for sure. Bank them, all of the trainers seemed to of been selected by a swarm of Delibird, but this event was streaming the news lines. You couldn't even enter a Pokemon Center without seeing pamphlets everywhere.

"I swear, Lima and Saber would make great friends," he yelled at Pan, looking over to the Skarmory, acting wild just for a taste of other people's food.. It seemed to work, until a trainer thought he could try and catch him while he was distracted. When the Pokeball was bounced off his head, he was shooed off immediately before Douken himself getting yelled at by his actions. With apologies aside, Douken sighed it off and looked around.

Unlike Pan, Douken didn't select any of the tents. He didn't set up his own. Could be after all of the years training with the Amazons, he gained a liking to sleep under the stars.

After returning the Armored bird, he looked around at the other Pokemon. Maya seemed to of been getting really friendly with the kids who were brought with their parents, enjoying the attention. Looking the other direction, he saw Rufus with a bunch of other dog Pokemon who were trying to train for a Pokeathelon event by catching a Frisbee. Seemed they didn't mind the extra competition, at least. Watching him using a Houndour as a stepping stone made Douken laugh, but was quickly interrupted by a set of screams. Turning back to Maya, his Duskull decided to say hi... probably in the worst way possible.

"Reep! Try not to scare the kids!" Watching the ghost rub the back of her head and apologizing best she could, he couldn't help but sigh. "Guess that is what happens when you try and train a ghost, right?" letting that go, he turned over to see Koldo, staring off into the distance. Glancing in his way, he seemed to of saw the shadow of an Absol staring at them, before dashing off into the shadows. "Okay, now that makes five... Now where is Rusty?"

The Magnemite was nowhere to be scene outside. Looknig around, he thought he could see it with the other Magne-family Pokemon, but didn't seem so. All that was left was the tent.

Klomp klomp klomp klomp...

Opening the tent entrance, he looked enough, there was the iron ball, being timid as ever.

Klomp klomp klomp klomp...

"Now Rusty, cmon. No need to be shy. I am sure you will make many friends. Now get out here."

Klomp klomp klomp klomp...

As he pulled the magnet ball out of the tent, a large shadow rose over Douken, "Kangaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas," echoing before him before the large arms wrapped around his body. "khaaaaaan!" Lifting Douken of the floor, the Kangaskhan squeezed tightly around the trainer.

Well, didn't see this coming...

Location: Near the tent where the Kangaskhan is.

James had arrived at Pokécon, the aroma of food was getting to his head already. He looked around and saw all types of different things like Berry Stalls which looked to have some exquisite berries like Ganlon, Lansat and Starf. Normally you wouldn't see those types of berries in ordinary places, but this was Pokécon. Trainers were already at the event trying to get themselves set up by pitching tents and readying sleeping bags. For some it seemed this was a challenge to see who was the toughest trainer, Pokeathlete or even Breeder. But for some they were just here to have a good time and meet some new friends. James hoped that he would be able to get to know a few more people, but he also hoped to learn more about how to improve on Pokeathlons and Gym Battles. Pokécon was already starting to get trainers like James and the complete opposite of him piling themselves in like packs of sheep.

James looked around as he could see the different variety of pokemon wondering around with trainers. He could see flying type pokemon like Pidgeotto and Starly's flying gracefully circling and making themselves look good. Then he looked around the ground and saw pokemon like Togepi and Igglybuff interacting and playing with each other. They looked to be having fun, and so the trainers did to. The trainers were getting to know others and let not only themselves socialize but their pokemon to. James felt the sense of belonging as he stopped looking around, he then grabbed four red and white spherical balls of his belt and had two in each hand. He then threw the four red and white spheres into the air as four different pokemon beamed through the red gleaming light and landed to the ground.

James looked down at them as he saw Muddy, Trikey, Sandy and Jolt. Jolt quickly scurried himself behind James as he was scared of the surroundings around him. James bent down to his knees to comfort the little electric spider pokemon, it climbed up his body and placed itself on James's shoulder. James had seemed to have now grown equipped to Jolt placing himself on his shoulder. It seemed to give the pokemon a sense of comfort as he glared at bug pokemon with one scarred eye of it's four. James felt sorry for the Joltik as he would never know how he got the scar. It was a mystery.

James looked down again as Sandy the Sandile seemed to have placed herself next to James's left leg. She didn't look to energetic and just wanted to rest, James wondered why it would be so tired. James then looked over to see Muddy and Trikey getting along. The little Mudkip and Electrike were bumping each other and looked to be having fun, Muddy and Trikey had known each other longer then they had known Jolt and Sandy but he hoped they would all become friends sooner rather then later.

James glanced up as different things ran through his head as wondered what to start with. He then grabbed out a sleeping bag. It had a picture of Snowpoint City, it resembled where he had come from and brought back memories of his early childhood. James placed the sleeping bag down onto the ground as he had found the spot he was camping at for the night. James knew being at an event like Pokécon, it was advised you arrived early so you could set up. That was what James had done, looking at the sleeping bag he had placed down was bringing back memories which he seemed to filter through his mind.

James decided maybe now it was time to get to know some of the trainers around here. But there was only one problem, where was Jolt. Jolt had seemed to have disappeared of his shoulder, James started to worry as he hadn't learnt any of Jolt's traits or knew what he was into. He looked around as he looked from store to store, Muddy, Sandy and Trikey were sticking with James as he rushed into a state of panic. As James's head turned around he saw Jolt, he was next to a breeding stall chewing into an electrical wire. The electrical wire was plugged into an incubator, it seemed to have a red and white striped egg encased inside it. It looked delicate as James rushed over to pick Jolt up. James stretched his arms out as he picked up Jolt and placed him on his shoulder. The sense of worry James had gone away, now it was time to get social.

James glanced around trying to look to make a friend or friends. He didn't know who to start with, he had spotted a girl chasing after a Cleffa, she seemed to be in a rush to get her pokemon back. He saw another trainer with glasses on just outside a tent. A Kangaskhan seemed to have grabbed onto him hugging him. James let out a bit of a chuckle as he kept searching. As James glanced around he saw a pokemon, it seemed to stand out more then any other as he looked around and saw another off it's kind. Then it clicked in James's head what pokemon it was, it was Absol the disaster pokemon. Absol was rumored to create disasters wherever it went, James wasn't a believer of rumors but for this once he seemed to be more cautious.

James stared his eye at the sleek mammal like pokemon, it glared back at James seeming to send a message to James not to interfere. James didn't know what he could be interfering with but he sighed as he rolled his eyes and then turned back to see the Kangaskhan still holding onto the man with glasses. James wondered if it was trying to suffocate the poor guy. James started walking over near the tent were the Kangaskhan was and saw the pokemon hugging the guy close up. James looked at the pokemon as the words slipped out of his mouth and he said,

"You right there, need any help?"

The guy didn't seem to be in any dilemma, it just seemed to be a friendly hug. James looked as he saw the guy holding onto a metal ball like pokemon. It was Magnemite, it looked shy and didn't want to be were it was. James only wondered who this guy was and whether he was a trainer or not. James knew that trying to make friends wasn't to hard but it just depended on how nice or mean the person was. He looked into the guys glasses wondering if he needed help. If he did then James would surely give him a hand out of the situation. But for now James could smell the aroma of the food coming from some of the different food areas. It smelled delicious and James started to feel a rumble in his belly. He knew he was hungry, but first things first. Make a new friend was in his mind at the moment.

PANE: Darryn Kellor

"What are we doing here, again?" Darryn Kellor moaned as he and his latest partner, Lyla Moore, arrived at Starfall Field. A light breeze ruffled his styled red-brown hair but gave no chill as it swept along the verdant grassland. Before them, in an enormous bowl between low hills, hundreds of colourful tents were picketed in haphazard rows around many stalls and attractions that came with hawkers and tradesmen a'plenty. Out in the country was not Darryn's idea of a perfect afternoon (that would have been a day shopping in Junilife City, Sinnoh) but a relaxing day outdoors wasn't bad either.

"We are, like, here to give you a totally awesome break from training," Lyla replied, holding her hand up to her forehead to shield her azure-blue eyes from the sun, "and for me to get, like, a totally awesomer break from your training."

Darryn inwardly sighed. His cousin had a point. Three weeks since he had win the Mirrormist Ribbon and everything had been non-stop in Petropolis. His role at the Co-Ordinator school as a mentor had paid off well and his personal training with the other teachers had taught him a lot about Pokemon healthcare and battle tactics for the stage but there wasn't really anything for Lyla in the city. True, she could spend some work experience with the local Pokemon crčche but as ever, she had been close at Darryn's side with words of support and encouragement on his mission to 'find himself'. This trip was a good excuse to let Lyla do what she wanted for a change and it doubled up as an excuse to spend time with some of his Pokemon that he hadn't seen in a long time.

Darryn's Lineup (click to show)

"I get it, Ly." Darryn threw an arm around her shoulders. "I think I can see a Breeding Centre trade stall down there. How about we make that the first stop?"

Wide eyes and a bright smile turned up to him.

"Like, awesome!"

*****

"Look, Ume!" Lyla crooned over a low pen where baby Pokemon were playing happy together, watched over y a few trainers and a daycare girl. "Lots of other Smoochum to make friends with!" She plopped her own Kiss Pokemon down in the pen and gave her a light push. The purple ball turned around and pouted.

"Smoo! Smoochum!" She complained, reaching her arms up to be lifted back into Lyla's arms.

"Now, Ume, you've got to be friendly to Pokemon your own age." Lyla frowned. "Why don't you, like, just go have ten minutes of fun."

"SMOOCHUUUUM!" Ume wailed, bouncing on the spot and reaching up at her trainer. Several pairs of eyes turned their way. Blushing deeply, Lyla smoothed her long white and pink dress and stooped down to scoop up her troublesome baby.

"Shhh." She crooned, rocking the Kiss Pokemon gently until the tears subsided. Ume buried her face into Lyla's chest where, unseen, she grinned widely. Humans were so easy to manipulate.

*****

"Baccate Town?" Darryn smoothed a Watmel berry between his hands. "I've never heard of it."

"Really? Well, you should definitely pay us a visit." The farm hand smiled and bowed her head. "It would be an honor to have a celebrity come to stay with us."

"Wha-?" Darryn put the Watmel down fast.

"Oh, yes!" The girl beamed brightly. Darryn had known something was amiss from the start - she hadn't blinked once since they got talking and her Emotaglow was a deep pink that he normally only saw around Troy (or Jaima and Meiko when they thought they were alone). He wondered how his friends were after they had split up. Had Jaima reached Port Barley yet? Gotten another Gym Badge? What about Meiko and her Pokeathlon dream? Then there was Tuesday and all of the crazy psychic things she had going on. He missed them all a lot.

"I'm not a celebrity!" Darryn protested. "I'm just a Co-Ordinator."

"And only one of the top twenty favourites to make the final for the Furoh Region Grande Festival!" The girl was completely starstruck now. "You have a lot of fans in Baccate! Just come down and see for yourself! I know absolutely everyone would love to see you there!"

"M-maybe when I come back that way... Sure?" Darryn backed away rather quickly. "I think it's probably best to keep having a look around right now though, so see you later."

"Oh, yes! Please come back anytime!" The girl called after him as he disappeared around a tent and towards the buffet. Without warning, something small and pink struck his legs, removing them from the ground and sending him sprawling to the floor with a thud accompanied with a cry of:

"CLEFFAAA!"

Kenz's Squad (PANE)

To: No one in particular
Location: The "Sky Ranch" table

Kenz was beyond exited for coming to PokeCon. She wanted to see friends, meet new ones, and most of all, show off her flying Pokemon. She smiled at Tropius, who had happily flown her all the way here. Tropius smiled back, enthusiastic about seeing all the different Pokemon.

"Okay, everyone come out!" she yelled. The festival wasn't super croweded yet, but she wanted to make the most of the time she could see within five feet of her area. Pidee flew up immediatly, taking in his surroundings, then diving down toward the "Sky Ranch" table. Kenz reluctantly followed him after picking up Caterpie and placing him on her shoulder. Pidee was observing the bird Pokemon and screeching at them in a random fashion when Kenz made it to the table. It was decorated in blue paint and had many pens and Pokemon around it.

"This is quite amazing," she breathed, transfixed by the sheer abundunce of Flying-Types. She picked up a black-plumed pen and gazed at the inscription: Vullaby Pen. "What got you so interested in this? The pens, and all the Flying-Types?" she asked the vendor.

To: (No one in particular in the beginning) Pokefan209
Location: A clearing in the PokeCon

Elizabeth was currently putting on a show for some people with her pokemon. Her oshawott and taillow did a brilliant dance, in which Oreo flipped and leapt and pushed Serena into the air with his tail. Serena swirled in the air, making the scene like a pokemon ballerina was twirling a blue, red, and white ribbon around itself. When they finished, the small group watching applauded. Liz and her pokemon bowed before Liz put them back in their pokeballs. She knew if she let them stay out they'd go after the sweet smelling food. Liz, however, was not so hungry. Greg had eaten a rich chocolate cake earlier, and it went out the wrong way. Luckily, it scared off the absols for about a second. Liz shivered; the dark pokemon always had creeped her out. Once, when she went with her father to Fortree City, they had watched her from the tall grass, scaring her little self out of her wits. Her father had comforted her and kept her safe. Liz wished her father was alive, and here. She sighed and moved away, trying to clear her thoughts.

The PokeCon was incredible so far. The sights were amazing, with booths and tents left and right. Liz walked over to a glass making booth and bought a tiny glass taillow for Serena, placing it in her Pokemon's collectible bag. Liz looked around for anyone familiar, but that was unlikely in this enormous crowd. She let out her riolu, which helped her feel a bit more relaxed in the crowd and with the absol, for they were weak to Ryan's fighting attacks, if they should threaten her. As she looked around, she remembered a the tent she had been given when she arrived. Liz slung the bag down from her back and opened it to see it's contents; her own sleeping bag that she had brought, designed with blue, white, and pale yellow to look like the beach, and the tent, which was midnight blue, with specks of white and yellow that looked a bit like stars. Liz thought it ironic, seeing as the real stars would be right outside, but she liked it anyways. She rose and started searching for a place to set it up.

She found a nice spot to make her camp. It was a low grass area with a dirt patch near it, which could be good for a fire. Liz let out all of her other pokemon. She smiled. "Who's ready to camp?" Ryan raised his arm, Greg barked, Serena crowed, Oreo shot a thin stream of water into the air, and Kelli leapt into the air, transforming into a look-a-like of Liz, though two black ears stuck out of her hair. Liz pulled on one and zorua transformed back into her usual self, smiling mischievously. Liz clapped softly. "Let's get to work then!"

Liz, Ryan, and Serena set up the tent. Liz sat inside with the riolu, holding up the tent while her tallow pulled up on the cloth and onto the sticks inside that supported it. Ryan would hold the stick still while Liz checker the directions until she got it right. When she exited the tent, she looked it over. it was like someone had cut the night sky into a half circle and plopped it on the ground, then added a grey door as if you could enter the sky through it. Liz went to check on her other pokemon while Serena and Ryan rested. Greg dragged sticks into a pile by the tent to prepare for that night. Zorua dug out a larger pit, while oshawott added stones in a ring. Liz helped with the larger ones that he couldn't lift.

When they finished, it looked like a quaint camping scene out of a movie. Liz returned her pokemon and grabbed her smaller bag. She wanted to take some pictures, and now was as good of a time as any. She pulled out her camera and started with her camp, then walked back towards the mass of booths and tents she had left earlier. Liz stopped by the glass blowing booth and snapped a picture, careful to turn off the flash, since it wasn't needed and might distract the people working. When she came along to a bird pokemon booth, she gasped and grinned. "Kenz, is that you?" She ran over, still smiling. "I didn't think I'd see you here! How are your pokemon?" Liz had a million other questions to ask, but those seemed best upon arrival.

She was loving PokeCon.

Kenz turned around sharply, hearing the familiar sound of a friend she had met in the Safari Zone. Her brown eyes twinkled as she saw Liz. She gripped Liz in a hug before letting go and taking in how her friend had changed. Not much. Still the same smile, glasses, and bright personality. Kenz gave her best smile and replied.

"My Pokemon are great. As you can see, Pidee's going crazy with the bird Pokemon, Ca-Caterpie, you get off that girl's face this instant!"

Hearing his trainer's yell, Caterpie got off of the smooth surface that was Liz's face. "I just wanted to see if she was friendly or not!" he yelled, but all that came out was "Cat Cat Pie Caterpie!"

"Sorry about that. Caterpie's still rambuncious as ever, and Tropius is growing just fine." Kenz finished before chiding her bug Pokemon.

Tropius straightened her back at hearing her sister mention that she was doing a good job. Tropius, with proper nutrition and exercize, had grown a full foot since Liz last saw her. She was nearly adult size now.

To: No-one in Particular.
Location: The Entrance to the PokeCon.

Alex stared at the huge banner that marked the entrance of the PokeCon. He'd heard of ones similar, like in Floaroma, or the Safari Zone in Johto. But he'd never actually seen one with his eyes. These bright blue gems glistened as they took in the spectacle. PokeCon. Alex had been informed of this place just a few hours ago. He'd immediately said his goodbyes to his family and rushed over here on the back of Stryk, his Staravia.

Now he was waiting for Tom Hawk, who he assumed would also be here. It was late May, the perfect time for camping out in a place like this, but Alex didn't own a Tent. He knew that his best human friend, Tom, had a tent, so was hoping to encounter the blond trainer soon.

Even from the entrance, Alex could see a great deal. He saw huge amounts of tents littered over the site, he saw hundreds of various stalls with enthusiastic clerks wanting to sell their goods. Alex saw one that definitely caught his eye- a large stall saying "Move Tutor of Hoenn". Alex used to live in Hoenn, and his parents, adventurers and explorers, had left there when Alex was just a few years old. Alex wanted to go to Hoenn someday, once he'd been everywhere in Furoh, battled and hopefully won against every Gym leader, and won against the champion... Oh well, a boy could dream, right?

Finally, Alex had had enough. He couldn't stop himself. he was sure he'd see Gigarte-born Tom in here somewhere at some point, and besides, he'd just spotted the tent stall. He could just buy a tent, no?
Alex entered the PokeCon there and then, heading straight for the tent stall. Buy a tent and set up first, search around later. Yeah. That's what he'd do.

He walked up the guy at the desk.
"Hello." said Alex simply. He was shy around people he didn't know. Around people he did know, he was endlessly sociable.
"Why hello there, young sir! May I interest you in a tent?"

"Um... yeah. Sure. That's why I came here."

"OK then! Well, one tent is 2000 pokedollars!"

Alex was almost blown backwards at the price.
"You whaaaat? 2000 pokedollars! I can't afford that!" he exclaimed. It was true. He had come here with only a meagre 951 pokedollars.

"Well, Ok, then I'll give you a free one, if you can solve my puzzle. But I warn you. Nobody's solved it yet. It's almost impossible to complete!"

Alex nodded. He was good at riddles.

"Ok then, here you go: I'm as big as a Donphan, but lighter than a feather. What am I?" asked the dealer, and Alex could see the smugness in his eyes. He thought he was impenetrable.

"Easy. The Wind." replied Alex. He knew that one, that was ridiculously easy.

"What? You cheated, I know it! Answer this one! RIDDLE ME THIS:
For some I go fast
for others I'm slow.
To most people, I'm an obsession
relying on me is a well practiced lesson.
What am I?"

"Once again, too easy. Time."

"Ok then, well answer this one, and you get the tent. What has roots as nobody sees. Is taller than trees. Up, up it goes. And yet never grows?"

"Oh, nice one, but equally, too easy for me,. That is a Mountain. Now can I please have my tent?"

"Um.. sure. Take it." the man handed over a tent bag. He looked distraught. Alex smiled, and headed to a field. It was easy to put up the tent. He did it in about half an hour. Then, he dumped his stiff inside, taking his Pokegear with him. That way he could access his Pokemon quickly. Right then. Now he needed some money. Next time, the riddles might not be so easy, or the clerks might not be even decent enough to offer it for free.

"Right then, who wants a battle?" he said, nice and loud, whilst standing in the main section. Surely someone would be keen enough to take him on. "One on one, winner gets 500 pokedollars!"

Adelaine had been practicing her battling lately, in hopes of making her team stronger. Strong enough to eventually battle a gym leader. He young Taillow, Sora, was up against her very stubborn Swinub, Fuyuko. "Sora, use Peck!" The small bird-pokemon hopped up to the pig-pokemon and used his beak to attack her. Fuy just sat there, flinching every time Sora's sharp beak made contact with her skin. "Fuy, use Tackle!" The Swinub just sat there, as if she did not hear her trainer. "Fuy? Fuy...?" Adelaine called her name multiple times, but the Pokemon just stayed where she was, not moving. Adelaine continued to call her name for about five minutes, in which Fuy started to move, but it wasn't toward the Taillow. She lifted up her nose and sniffed the air, then set to work on finding something she could eat. "Fuy! No! Come back!" Fuyuko ignored Adelaine's cries and continued her search for food. "Oh, fine. Sora, Growl!" Sora flew into the air, following the Swinub, and let out a loud growl in her direction. This scared Fuy, causing her to dash forward, right into a tree. "Oh, Fuy!" Adelaine called Sora back into his Pokeball and swooped up Fuy into her arms. "When will you ever learn?"

-----------------

Adelaine carried Fuy to the closest Pokemon center to be taken care of. She handed her Pokemon off to Nurse Joy and sat in the waiting room, waiting for her to finish. She brought Axel, her Cyndaquil, out of his Pokeball so that she wouldn't have to sit alone while waiting. He curled up on her lap, snoozing away. Adelaine brushed her hand, softly, over the back of the sleeping Pokemon. Since he was a fire-type, his skin was very warm and it felt nice against her fingers. He rolled over underneath her fingers, wanting her to rub his belly. She pulled him into her arms, cradling him like a small child. She stood up, still holding the sleeping Pokemon. Walking over to the bulletin board, Adelaine read some of the flyers posted. There were ads for "Babysitters needed!" and "Pokemon for sale!" and one homemade flyer that really caught her attention. The flyer told of PokeCon, a gathering of everyone who's anyone.

PokeCon! (click to show)

"Oh! This looks like fun!" Her exclamation woke the sleeping Pokemon in her arms. His stirring prompted her to ask him if he wanted to go. He yawned and fell back asleep, so Adelaine made the decision that they would all go, once she got her Swinub back.

-----------------

Adelaine's eyes darted back and forth from each of the stalls as she walked through PokeCon. The first stall she came across was full of camping gear. Her parents had given her a lot of money, which she hadn't used much of, she she decided to use some of it to buy things, so commemorate this event. She filled a bag full of her newly purchased camping gear and rushed to find a good spot before they were all taken. Her camping gear was composed of all of her favorite colors. Shades of purple, green, blue, and silver. She set up her gear in a spot secluded from most of the other people. Most wanted to be as close to the shops and all that was happening, but she found the perfect spot. It was right next to an oddly shaped meteorite, that glistened in the afternoon sun. She stood in the sun a few minutes longer, basking in it's warmth, before she called out her Pokemon. Axel and Fuyuko fell right asleep as soon as they were let out, so she decided to leave them there while she browsed the shops. "You two stay here and guard the tent, okay?" Axel stared at her for a few moments and then yawned in compliance.

-----------------

Phoebe, her Misdreavus, and Sora followed her towards the shops. Since they were in a crowd of people, Phoebe decided it was time for her to have some fun. She floated away from her trainer and played a few pranks on the gathering trainers. She glided around, freaking out the people that were afraid of ghost-types just by being there. She went up to trainers, screeching behind them. She pulled on the hair of a few girls, causing them to screech on their own. Phoebe loved being around hundreds of people, because that meant more fun for her.

-----------------

Adelaine hadn't noticed that Phoebe darted off after lingering people, so she continued to shop around. First, she bought enough food that would last her and her Pokemon for the whole duration of PokeCon. Second, she decided to do a little shopping for herself. She came upon a popular shop, one in which a man and his Pokemon made glass figures. The pendants were going fast, mostly the ones in shape of the baby Pokemon. She browsed through the shop, with the man watching her. She gave him a smile and a small wave and continued looking. There were two pendants that she loved, and not being able to choose between the two, she chose to buy both. The man behind the counter followed her eyes to see which ones she had chosen. "Oh, those are two of my favorites. I'm surprised they hadn't gone sooner." The first one, with the longer chain of the two, was in the shape the fairy-like Pokemon, Azelf. "The Being of Willpower," he says, "it is said that it only shows itself to those of very strong will. I can see that you yourself have strong will. Maybe one day it shall show itself to you..." The second, with the shorter chain, was in the shape of a Suicune. There was a a few, small droplets of water inside of the pendant. "The water comes from a lake near here that was said to have been purified by Suicune. It has special properties." Adelaine purchased the two pendants and put them on right away. The Azelf pendant hung down, almost to her waist, and the Suicune pendent fit just below her neck.

"They're beautiful."

After several hours of travelling by foot and picking up some short rides Tyson finally found himself in the PokeCon, the thing everybody was talking about and going to. Unlike most trainers who had a Flying Pokemon big enough to carry them or one that could do it by land he had none of those. Tyrogue, despite carrying the super-strength of Fighting-types, and Oniden were out of question. Lícia wouldn't be big enough until she fully evolved and, even when Gobi evolved, he would either be far too slow or just be a lazy ass and sleep instead of walking. Oh well, at least they managed to arrive in time.

~~~
The various scents of the delicious food were making Tyson to grip even harder to a specific Pokeball in his belt. The Heavy Ball containing his Hippopotas, Gobi, who would break free of it when food was the subject. Everyone else, except Oniden, were inside their respective Pokeballs as well. Tyson thought it would be a good idea to let his most recent capture roam freely outside his Safari Ball so that they could bound faster. Such tactic proved ineffective with Tyrogue, though. Hell, maybe they'd finally find why the Elekid couldn't use Electric attacks at all.
"Sol." the cry was ignored by Tyson at first but when the Pokemon tried to attack him he barely managed to dodge the black scythe. In an attempt to protect his new trainer Oniden tried to get a Karate Chop on the Absol but the foe proved to be far too agile for the little Elekid to hit. After this small fight the Absol backed away, back to wherever it came from. Tyson took the chance to look around. Despite the enormous crowd the place was swarming with Absols and this could only mean a disaster was coming. According to common superstition, that is.
The extra weight on Tyson's bag remembered him that he still needed to set up his tent for the remaining of the event. He always enjoyed camping thanks to occasional camping trips to Ilex Forest when he was young. He found a nice spot next to a few other tents and proceeded to call both Gobi and Tyrogue while leaving Lícia inside her Pokeball. She was pretty much the one Tyson relied on for everything so she needed some rest.
"Alright, guys, we need to set up a tent! Oniden, you go gather some wood to get a fireplace going!" the Elekid saluted his trainer before going off into the some nearby bushes go gather a bunch of sticks.
"Gobi, you make some small holes on the ground so that we can set up easier." with his typical yawn he turned around and started digging small holes in the shape of a rectangle.
"And can you help me unpack, Tyrogue?" the Scuffle Pokemon nodded showing that he was finally warming up to his new trainer a little. After the unpacking was done Tyson proceeded to shove the tent pegs with the help of Tyrogue onto the holes that Gobi made. To solidify them onto the ground even more he asked Gobi to cover what little space was left on the holes. Now he just needed to set up the main frame and the cover. Again, with the help of Tyrogue, they managed to set up the frame with no problems. The cover, however, was a bit more troublesome because of the wind. After a few minutes of struggling with it they finally managed to set it up with the help of everyone, including Oniden who had since come back from the stick gathering. The tent was finally done after some gruesome 40 minutes. However this actually helped his team since it made them work together and increased their abilities to some point. It trainer Tyrogue's strength with the unpacking and carrying of materials, it helped Gobi's Dig attack which could now be done slightly faster and helped Oniden's capacity of finding, gathering and carrying. In the end what seemed like a small task turned into a training session. Tyson sat down after all the work and it was worth it. The tent was well built and provided a very nice shelter to relax and to sleep.
He stepped outside and there was now a guy shouting asking who wanted to battle. Uninterested Tyson left for the stalls, two of which in particular that were being talked about a lot; the Sky Ranch and a glass statuette maker.
“CLEFFA!”
Lima did not pay heed to the fallen Darryn. In fact, the chubby cleffa used the coordinator as a stepping stone to the vast amounts of food. She jumped onto his stomach, wobbled across his chest, and stepped on his face to reach the tablecloth. With a jump off his cheek, Lima grabbed the cloth and began climbing up the table. Though she was heavy for her species, she was still light enough to avoid spilling all the food trays all over Darryn.
All except the giant bowl of spaghetti.
As the cleffa journeyed upward, the bowl of tomato sauce and noodles was quickly creeping towards the edge, threatening to empty its contents all over the coordinator. Doom seemed to be inevitable until an arcanine rushed onto the scene. His rider jumped off and calmly picked up Lima before catastrophe set in.
“Hey Dazz,” Pan said as she hugged her cleffa, who was struggling to dive into the chocolate cake. Pan gave a bright smile as she waited for Darryn to realize that an old friend had arrived.
Laughing, Douken squirmed, trying to get free of the grip. "Calm down, girl! Calm down! Trying to get his arms out, his glasses slipped off his face, hitting the floor and breaking into pieces... again. "Looks like tape didn't work." It seemed that after the incident at Lenolia, he tried to repair the frames with scotch tape, but held together with no avail. Sighing, he said, "Alright, Tamia, you can put me down now."
With a smile on her face, Douken was set down before his hand petted the bottom of her chin. "I am guessing they are here as well, since you are?" With the Kangaskhna nodding, Douken smiled before going to pick up the pieces of his frame. "Guess I can tell them hi later."
Turning over to the new kid, he let Rusty go to float about (as in behind Douken), before scratching the back of his head. "Yeah, there was no worry there. This is my father's Kangaskhan, Tamia. Tamia, this is..." He stood there for a moment blankly beofre turning back to him and asking, "Who are you, exactly?"
As James watched on he saw the guy's glasses fall of his face, they fell to the ground and shuddered and broke into pieces. The glasses looked like they had been previously fixed from by using a type of tape. James looked at it closely and recognized it was Scotch Tape. As the guy in front of him started to talk to James, he felt a sudden wondering of who James was. James decided he would start off by introducing himself to the guy that looked only a few years older then himself. He then said to him,
"Hey there. I'm James Stanley from Snowpoint City in the Sinnoh Region. I'm aspiring to become the a Pokemon Master and the best Pokeathlete." James took a breath as he then said to the guy,
"So who are you? I was just trying to make some friends. I saw the Kangaskhan hugging you and wondered what was going on."
James looked as Jolt fell asleep on James's shoulder again and James didn't want to interfere with it. He would let the little yellow spider pokemon have a rest while he meet a person who might even become his friend. James looked around as he watched more pokemon trainers pack into the area. It looked like this event was going to be momentous and could make new bonds between other trainers.
Finnley had found himself walking around the PokeCon. He was new to the region, so that made him even newer to the festival that was going on. People all around him were setting up tents, supposedly spending the night. It wasn't for awhile before he actually got the point across that he should do the same, before all the good spots were taken. In a flash, Finn took out his green tent and put it together.
A mere ten minutes and his humble home was up and ready for use. With his hands on his hips and a grin on his face he took a few moments, soaking in his simple achievement. That's when it hit him, he should spend some time with his Pokemon. "Rue," the trainer said as he tossed his pokeball into the air, "have some fresh air."
His little piglet appeared a second later, with its' nose in the air and a big smile on his face. It hopped up and down as Finn bent downwards, patting it on the head. "We'll be here for a few days. This is suppose to be a good festival, from what I've heard."
Rue just nodded, still grinning widely to his trainer. His eyes wandered, watching as other trainers and Pokemon were doing the same as they were.
"Maybe we can find a few trainers to practice on too!" Finn said as his eyes grew with excitement. "We'll need all the training we can get."
After the purchase of her pendents, Adelaine walked around the little shops, looking for anything else she wanted to buy. She glided around the tables, past all of the breeders trying to get good deals for their baby Pokemon. She stopped for a moment, long enough to pet a few of the little ones in the stalls. There were Pokemon from all around and all types; there were ground-types, fire-types, normal-types, something from every type. She stopped by a small kiddie pool, filled with baby water Pokemon. She patted the head of a small Horsea, "Well, aren't you a cutie," she said, smiling at the little Pokemon.
Adelaine continued walking around the shops, until she came to one selling the feathers of Flying-type Pokemon, made into quills. Sora, who was still following her, made a little perch of her shoulder. She picked up a quill made of a Swellow feather and held it up to him. "What do you think? You'll be a Swellow one day." She ran her hand along the feather, taking in the amazing blue color that it was.
She put down the Swellow feather and browsed through some more of the merchandise. She found the feather of a Braviary, a strong, powerful flying-type, known mostly for their strength and fearlessness. The feather was brilliant shades of red and blue. Speaking to the person behind the table, she said "I would like this one."
Among the trainers crowded at their tents, Phoebe was still pulling pranks on whomever she could find. She found some man, dark hair and large biceps, meditating on a carpet laid in front of his tent. She floated quietly around his head, for he didn't realize she was there. She made noises, making him think that she was nothing but a common fly. He swatted and swatted, but the "fly" just wouldn't go away. He opened his eyes to Phoebe floating less than an inch from his face. The man, who looked like he could squash someone with his bare hands, screamed like a little girl, running as fast as he could from the creepy Pokemon. Phoebe laughed her little Misdreavus laugh and floated back into the crowd, looking for someone else to torment.
"Wow, so this is poke'con." Kaya and Luke walked under a bright banner showing that they had entered the place of this wonderful event. Luke wandered off to a breeding stall to look at some baby pokemon, while kaya and manera hit the buffet. amongst the tables they saw a strange looking pokemon with a horn sticking out of its head. Kaya took out her pokedex and scanned it.
"Absol, the disaster pokemon. It has the ability to detect natural disasters. It lives in the mountains and appears only to humans to warn them of impending danger." The pokedex said. This was odd to Kaya. The absol right in front of her seemed to be trying to get noticed. As a matter of fact, they were everywhere, all striving for attention. Nothing seemed amiss, though. It was probably just some sort of ritual researchers hadn't learned about yet.
"My Pokemon are great. As you can see, Pidee's going crazy with the bird Pokemon, Ca-Caterpie, you get off that girl's face this instant!"
Liz felt something on her face get pulled off and noticed it was her coterie, which cried out. Liz laughed but listened intently.
"Sorry about that. Caterpie's still rambuncious as ever, and Tropius is growing just fine." Kenz said, scolding her bug pokemon.
Liz nodded. "Ryan here is still training like he might have do defend me from a herd of Tauros, though it's not a bad thing." At that Ryan looked back at them, for he had gone over to a nearby Absol in the shadow of a tent, watching it carefully.
Liz continued, "Oshawott and Taillow are still crazy for attention. Greg's been well rounded with his behavior, which is good, since if he was anything like Kelli, I'd be putting out fires left and right. Zorua is as mischievous as ever, though I think she might be great in a contest. I have some ideas for it, since I'm hoping to enter one soon. Anyways, I'll be putting on small shows around the 'Con. I've got to go, but if you want to chat, I'll either be around here or at my tent, which is midnight blue with stars on it." Liz hugged Kenz good bye before heading off to explore the PokeCon.
She decided to grab some pokemon food from the buffet, should they have any. She found some and asked for a bag from an attendant, filling it up with the warm brown food. Liz gave some to Ryan, who ate it gratefully. Liz saw a large Arcanine and boy holding a Cleffa nearby. She pulled out her camera and snapped a picture of the scene before walking away, back towards her tent.
Liz let out her pokemon again there, throwing their pokeballs in the air. "Alright, guys and girls, I'm going to let you guys roam the place. Keep in pairs thought; and Greg, stay away from the buffet. I got you guys some food already for tonight, and I'll try and find a Poffin stand too. I'll meet you guys back here in an hour. Stay out of trouble." They all nodded vigorously. Liz smiled slightly.
"Good. Greg, you can go with Oreo. Kelli, be nice to Serena. Ryan will be with me." At that the two other groups parted, rushing to the large mass of tents that made up the PokeCon. Liz put her camera in her pocket and followed, Ryan right by her side.
"Did you spot any co-ordinator booths or tents when we met Kenz?" Her roil shook his head. She sighed. "Well, I might as well relax then." Ryan only grunted a sharp, "Rio."
Rose walked up the path to Starfall Field, face lighting up as she spotted the brightly colored banner labeled "PokeCon" in large letters. "Yay, we're finally here!" she exclaimed happily. It had been a rather long trip from Port Barley to here, and she'd had to take it mostly on foot. At last, she passed under the banner, and found herself looking at what was already shaping up to be a magnificent affair. She stared about her in awe, taking in the sights and sounds of PokeCon. This, she decided, was definitely worth the trip.
"Hey, Alaia, check it out!" she exclaimed with a bright grin, pointing (rather unnecessarily) at the various tables. Her Cottonee gave a cheerful chirp, bouncing up and down on top of Rose's head. She grinned in response. "So you like it too, huh? Now, what should we do first?" Rose wondered aloud, surveying the area. She peered at some of the signs labeling the various tables, muttering to herself. "Let's see... the Sky Ranch -- that sounds interesting -- a glass artisan, Adopt-a-Pokemon..." She pouted slightly. "Oh, I don't know. What do you think, Alaia?"
The Cottonee turned around on top of Rose's head, balancing precariously as she looked around. Finally, she fluttered to the ground and bounced in place for a moment before moving forward in one direction. Rose followed Alaia, curious, to find that they were heading towards the tents. "Oh, that makes sense," she muttered, a little sheepishly. "We should unpack first..."
She looked around the campground, musing that it was a good thing that Alaia had pointed it out to her. The place was packed already; if she'd arrived any later, all the good spots would have been taken. After some searching, she finally found an empty spot that was reasonably close to the main part of PokeCon. She rummaged around in her rather large backpack for a moment before locating the portable tent she carried. Setting it up quickly with the ease of long practice, she stood back and surveyed her work, nodding approvingly. The small blue tent was rather plain in comparison to some of the other trainers' elaborate affairs, but it worked just fine for her. "Alright, looks pretty good," she said, half to herself.
That done with, she decided to return to the fair. If they were doing practical things first, then food would be next on the agenda. She set off for the buffet, Alaia hopping along companionably beside her. Her stomach grumbled in anticipation as she got closer and smelled the delicious aroma of the food there. Once she arrived, however, she was distracted by a familiar face. She opened her mouth to call out to her friend, but shut it again once she noticed the Pokemon Kaya was standing in front of. Rose walked up to her friend and said quietly, so as not to spook the Pokemon -- an Absol, according to Kaya's Pokedex -- "Hey, Kaya. It's nice to see you again."
"Oh, hi Rose. Nothin' much I s'pose. I think I saw James over by one of the tents. It would be cool to catch one of those," Kaya said to Rose. Then she brightened. "And why shouldn't I? Manera, attack!"
"Blitzlebli!" the zebra-like pokemon cried.It charged at the Absol, but it jumped out of the way and crashed into a, luckily empty, table. Kaya noticed that it only had three legs. Before Manera could charge again it ran away.
"After it!" Kaya shouted, chasing the absol. The two of them wove through the crowd, around booths and into craters. The absol must have only lost its leg recently, because its gate wasakward and slow and it tripped often. The combination of the three made it possible for Kaya to follow it, even when it went into a group of absol. Finally, Kaya managed to corner it behind some booths.
"Manera, quick attack!" The blitzle charged past its trainer and rammed into the absol, which countered with a scratch attack. It then proceeded to use a taunt attack, which sent Manera into a rage. The blitzle charged again and again at Absol, which every time dodged and countered with scratch. There were a few that landed- and when they did hit, they hit hard. By the time taunt had worn off, though, Manera was about to drop.
"Manera, shock wave," Kaya said. The pokemon focused all of its energy into a ring of lightning that expanded from it hooves and hit the absol. It in turn jumped over Manera, slashing its back with dark blue claws. It collapsed on the ground, fainted, but her attacks had done their job. The absol was weakened enough to capture. Kaya threw a pokeball she'd gotten from Jillius on the way here. It clicked once, twice, three times before the absol quit struggling.
"I think I'll call you beacon, since absol are supposed to show up to warn people of disasters and all," Kaya told the pokeball as she picked it up. Then she turned her attention to Manera. A trip to the pokemon center later, the blitzle was happily bounding about again. The two of them went back to where Kaya had run into Rose.
"Sorry," Kaya apologized. "I got a little carried away. How've you been?"
PANE
Justin Smart
To: Douken Sota and James Stanley
Location: Pan's Tent
"So are you going back to Petropolis?" Nate, Justin's partner in the nefarious Team Deception asked. They had just finished a mission in Gigarte, which ended surprisingly successfully and netted them a few days off. They both lived in Petropolis, and so they had originally planned on going together. "Or are you seriously still thinking about doing PokeCon?"
"Pan'll be there, dude," Justin said. "I have to talk to her."
"How could you possibly know that?"
"It's what she does, dude," Justin insisted. "She takes pictures, she trains pokemon; this is right up her alley."
"Speaking of right up her alley..."
"Dude,"
"What?"
"Don't."
"Come on," Nate laughed. "We both know your intentions. You told me in Lenolia, remember?"
"Just shut up. I'm going to PokeCon."
----
He did go to PokeCon, but he went alone. He had his pokemon, of course. He didn't really know what to expect, to be honest. He'd never been to something like this before and, moreover, his relationship with his own pokemon had always been noticeably weaker than most trainers. It had gotten better recently, primarily with Hitmontop, but it was still different.
He contemplated changing course many times on his way over. How creepy was it to go to a huge convention just to see a girl who you weren't even totally sure would be there? A girl you weren't even dating, even. Why was he acting like this?
Once he got there, he got his complementary tent and immediately set out for his priority: He had to find her. As he walked through the massive crowd, he eventually, and inevitably, stumbled upon an Absol. Immediately he backed up as it seemed to hiss at him for invading its personal space, but then he took a step forward and kneeled down to see it eye to eye. "Sorry 'bout that, bud," he said, refusing to play submissive to it, though he knew full well it could tear him apart if it so chose.
It seemed confused at the interaction. Due to the stigma around Absol, people tended to ignore it or treat it with anticipatory fear. Some kids would try to be big and capture it or fight it for no reason, but rarely did people treat it with respect. Its snarling subsided as it walked away. Justin stood up and continued walking, but felt the Absol's eyes following him as he did. He didn't look back over to it, though.
His attention was caught when he saw a large Kangaskahn across the field a little ways. Very few people seemed to be bothered by the fact that it seemed to be attacking a human being, and so Justin initially paid it no mind, at least until he noticed that human being was Douken Sota, whom he had met a few times before. Now, Justin's increase in excitement at seeing Douken was not because he was excited to catch up with his amazonian, four eyed friend, but because every time he met Douken, he was with Pan, meaning she was most likely around.
By the time he got through the crowd, the pokemon had released Sota, and there was little boy there as well. "Douken!" Justin called out, walking over to him. He held his hand out and shook his hand. "Been a little while, right? What's going on?" Then, he looked over at James. "What's up, little man?" he put his hand on the kid's shoulder. "This giant pokemon yours? I'm impressed."
