Name: Mack Echo Nima
Age: 32
Hometown: Petropolis, then Barley, then wandering, currently Gigarte.

Appearance: Mack is 6’ tall even, and fairly lean, weighing around 190 lbs. He has toned muscles, but they are not very noticeable under his eclectic assortment of clothes. He keeps his dirty brown hair one to two inches long, but at uneven lengths, as he cuts it himself. He frequently wears a grey bandanna to catch the sweat from his brow, since most of his time is spent outside. He has dark blue eyes, and occasionally, when it gets particularly bright out, will wear his bandanna low, below his eyebrows, to keep the sun out of his eyes. He keeps his beard trimmed with the same scissors he uses to cut his hair, so he hasn’t been clean shaven in a few years.

He wears a blue button up shirt he dug out of a dumpster under a brown corduroy jacket he picked up from a charity. On his back, he lugs around a large backpack filled with pretty much whatever pieces of trash he’s found that he thought would one day be useful. He generally keeps a bottle of wine in the backpack, which he saves to sip upon when he has a really long walk ahead of him, to help pass the time. He also carries two water bottles, to help keep himself hydrated. A large portion of the stuff in his backpack consists of electronics and mechanical parts so he can build or repair something in a pinch if he needs to. Tucked between the backpack and his back he carries an old, light blue electric guitar someone was throwing out which he fixed up. In one of his jacket pockets he carries a pocket amp, so he can perform occasionally when he really needs to panhandle for some money. He keeps one of his other jacket pockets reserved for spicy snacks he finds for his pokemon. His jeans are one of the few items he still has from when he lost his job, and absolutely show the wear. The ends are frayed to above his ankles, there are holes in each knee, and the original blue color has faded to a dirty grey.

Holding up his pants is the tool belt he used at his old job. In this belt he holds his 4 pokeballs, two of which contain his two pokemon. Also in his tool belt, he keeps an almost complete set of electrical tools, augmented with some tools he either made himself or found. Mack has picked up an uncanny knack for finding those socks people always loose, so his feet are almost never cold. He has even managed to find a couple of pairs of matching socks over the years, and currently wears mismatched socks under a pair of long matching socks. He used to simply wear a pair of sneakers, but after a night when he found and finished off a bottle of harder liquor than wine, he woke up wearing a steel-toed worn leather boot on his right foot, and a blue roller blade on his left, with his sneakers nowhere to be found. Since then, he’s kept the odd footwear, since it actually helps him get around faster.

Here is a picture.

Personality: Mack is generally relaxed, and really does enjoy the company of people, but other people rarely enjoy the company of a homeless man. As such, he normally has his starly, Ohmega and his makuhita, Buck out walking with him or flying above as company. If he were to actually get and keep a human friend, he would most likely be extremely loyal and selfless, since there really is no downside to him helping someone else out, even at risk to himself. After all, what’s he got to lose? Mack takes any opportunity or excuse he can to tinker. If your pokedex is on the fritz, or you just want your pokeball to have an electronic label signifying what pokemon is inside, and if he has the equipment, he can probably do it, and will probably do it cheap, just because it’s fun. He absolutely loathes people who exhibit their greed. He can understand if someone actually needs or merely desires something expensive, but he feels a little twinge of rage every time he sees a sports car, or a Luxury Ball. He is indifferent about pokemon battles, but will usually accept a challenge if money is on the line. After all, pokemon centers are free.

Biography: Mack was born July 4, 32 years ago to an upper middle class family in the city of Petropolis. His father, Elroy, supervised a pokemon center equipment factory, and was married to Cindy, a homemaker. Mack had a sister named Athena Linda Nima who was 4 years older than himself.

Growing up, Mack’s father had always been strict, grounding both Mack and his sister if either of their rooms were messy by the time he returned home from work, or if either of their chore lists hadn’t been completely finished. Mack’s mother, on the other hand, was very lenient when Elroy wasn’t around. She would often help her children finish their chores, or allow them to play video games while grounded, so long as their father wasn’t around and their chores were finished.

In elementary school, Mack quickly made a variety of friends, both because he was outgoing and lighthearted, and because if he could manage to hang out after school at a friend’s house, he avoided dealing with his father’s groundings. On occasion, however, he would receive particularly long groundings after he returned home with a note from his teachers saying that he had been talking too much in class. Mack didn’t think that was his fault. After all, when he started talking, everyone else was talking too. He just didn’t notice when the teacher began addressing the class every so often. Whatever the reason for the grounding, Mack eventually became bored with the toys and gadgets he had in his room to entertain him while grounded, so, naturally, he began to take them apart to try to understand how they worked.

When his father discovered this, and the fact that Mack was rarely able to put his gadgets back together, he added another condition onto Mack’s groundings. When he wasn’t doing homework or chores, Mack was to spend his time reading books. Mack quickly finished the few books he had in his room, children’s stories and a book on geography, so he began renting books that he found interesting from the school library. These usually included electronics manuals and the occasional book about science fair experiments. This ended up paying off a little, since for his fourth grade science fair, he demonstrated how to make a polygraph test out of parts from toys he had already destroyed.

When he was in middle school, his father got it in his mind that Mack should go out into the world to begin a pokemon adventure when he finished middle school, even though Mack insisted that he should at least finish high school, and that pokemon battles didn’t interest him. Despite all this, Elroy bought Mack a female starly for his 11th birthday, which Mack named Ohmega. Then for his 12th birthday Elroy took Mack outside the city so he could learn to catch his own pokemon. During their first trip, Ohmega was trounced by a wild geodude, and Elroy had to save the boy using his own wartortle. After resting up, they went out the next day, and after a rather close battle, Mack had captured a makuhita that he named Buck. From that point on until the end of middle school, Elroy took Mack out to train every weekend. As a break from his weekend training sessions with his father, Cindy bought Mack an acoustic guitar, and hired someone to tutor her son during the weekdays.

On his 14th birthday, Elroy spoke with Mack, explaining that even though he had prepared his son to properly begin a pokemon adventure, he understood that Mack had to make that choice for himself. So, he presented Mack with two identically sized, but differently wrapped boxes, explaining that Mack could only choose one present. If he decided to go explore the world and have an adventure, he should pick the red box. If he decided that he wanted to stay at home and finish his schooling, he should pick the blue box. Naturally, Mack immediately opened the blue box, finding a complete set of electronics tools and an envelope inside. He opened the envelope to find a note from his father explaining that if he wanted to go to a vocational school after high school, it would be paid for.

Over the next four years, Elroy became less and less strict as he was slowly convinced by his wife that Mack would have to learn to fend for himself sooner rather than later, and that if he wasn’t as tidy as his father, that was his own choice. In high school, Mack excelled in his math classes and loved shop. He performed well in the few art classes he took thanks to his guitar lessons. However, he struggled in his English classes, despite years of nigh daily reading, since he pretty much stuck to technical works rather than prose. Socially, he was as talkative and friendly as ever, getting into a cyberpunk scene for a while, followed immediately by a steampunk phase. During this time, along with his shop class, he taught himself more mechanically involved skills. In his cyberpunk phase, he was actually able to make a decent amount of money from his friends by making custom items, such as stylized digital watches with extra features, or pokeballs with superfluous lights and gears.

After high school, Mack continued his training for two more years, throughout which time he was constantly on the lookout for job opportunities. Two months before he finished his training, Mack found a perfect career helping design pokeballs for a subsidiary of the Sylph Co. Upon finishing his training, he immediately began work on a number of projects, and within a month, had his own apartment. It was actually his sister’s old apartment, but she, after a short career as a personal trainer, married one of her clients, named Gene Wallace Etik and was moving to a larger place in Petropolis. Mack mostly made custom pokeballs for clients, a number of premier balls, and occasionally improved upon existing pokeballs. Mack continued working for Sylph Co., but was bounced around between jobs every few years, from pokeballs to pokedexes, then to a new computer system that ended up failing, back to pokedexes, until he was finally promoted to a management position when he was 25. The following year, Mack was promoted again to head the research into a new type of pokeball altogether, the I.D. Ball. The idea was that the pokeball could synch up with its owner’s pokedex, and use the stored data to more easily capture pokemon which the trainer had already caught.

Unfortunately, to speed research and development, the job required Mack to move pretty much across the country to the city of Barley. Sylph Co. owned a small research facility there, and the supplies needed for the I.D. Ball would be shipped from Daioh. Sylph Co. purchased a cottage near the research facility in Barley, and then sent a transport service to move Mack all the way north to his new, company sponsored home.

Over the next two years, Mack came closer and closer to completing a proper prototype for the I.D. Ball. This was supposed to be a top secret design, but every few months one of the factory workers would let news slip to the public and there would be a wave of gossip surrounding the research lab and its young supervisor, Mack. He had hoped that these rumors would somehow help his odds at finding a girlfriend, but unfortunately, they were not positive rumors. There were tales of the young mad scientist experimenting on pokemon. After a little girl went missing, there were even rumors that Mad Mack had kidnapped her to run experiments and create a pokeball that could capture humans. They found the girl hiding in a boat within a few days, but the stigma from the rumors remained.

Mack had just finished the theoretical plans for the I.D. Ball, and was nearly halfway done with planning the needed changes to the modern pokedex. At this point in time, the pokedex could gather and maintain plenty of information to help a trainer in battle. The I.D. Ball, however, required more. Mack had deduced that in order to make a working prototype, he would have to modify his pokedex, and eventually everyone’s pokedexes, to store snippets of the target pokemon’s genetic code. Mack, not having experience with genetics, was walking home to call the local Sylph Co. representative so he could request a specialist when he happened to pick up a newspaper from a stand. “Research Lab Sold to Reduce Sylph Co. Losses” was the headline of an article on the bottom half of the front page. The article itself detailed how the local representative for Sylph Co. had been replaced by an older, more cutthroat employee who didn’t believe that the lab was relevant to Sylph’s success here in Furoh.

Upon reading this, Mack immediately turned around and went back to the lab, hoping nobody had actually come to clean house. When he arrived, nothing seemed out of place, so he went to his office, collected his notes, plans, and blueprints for the I.D. Ball, and went back home. He dialed Furoh’s Sylph representative, and was briskly told that what he had read was true. He was then promptly fired, and told he had until the next day to leave his cottage, which was company property. He heard a click, and realized that the man on the other end had hung up on him.

Slowly, he packed a bag, as waves of realizations washed over him. He had no job. He had no house. He had no car to get back to Petropolis. His family was on the other side of the country, and even if he could get to them, there was no way he would ask Elroy for help. “I trained you for three years how to use your pokemon to survive out on your own. You could have done it 14 years ago, why can’t you do it now?” is what Mack imagined his father spitting back at him.

This is, without a doubt, the absolute worst thing that has ever happened to me. As he thought that, he just laughed. Merely a chuckle, but as he packed his luggage, he continued chuckling. Somehow, it kept him going long enough for him to put together food, clothes, and his tool belt before falling asleep on his living room couch.

The next morning, he woke to the sound of a large vehicle pulling into his driveway. When he looked out the window, he read the words “Dale’s Cleaning Service” written on the side of a van. Panicking, Mack walked around his house, picking up whatever he thought he would need on his upcoming stint of homelessness. As he rushed past his bedroom door, he saw the pile of papers sitting on his bed. Quickly, he grabbed the I.D. Ball blueprints, ran to the kitchen, and wrapped them in plastic wrap. Just as he slid them into his luggage, he heard a loud pounding on his front door.

“Hey! Mr. ah… Mr. Neemo! I hope you’re decent in there, ‘cause we gotta come in to empty this place out!”

Mack sighed. “It’s Nima. Nee-muh.” He said as he opened the door to see two portly gentlemen wearing overalls and hard helmets. “Come on in, I guess.” He walked back to the kitchen and made himself a sandwich as he heard the two men thudding around his house, talking to each other about what things Sylph Co. wanted back, and what they could keep for themselves.

You know what? I’ve got to get out of here, this is too much. He exited his house, pulling his wheeled luggage behind him. He thought about his situation and decided just to walk one town over at first. He had no friends here. His employees would surely blame him for all of this. He just needed a first step to get him going in the right direction.

It’s been 5 years since then, and Mack is still wandering Furoh. Sometimes he uses roads; other times, when he’s properly supplied, he just picks a direction and walks until he finds a town or a road that will lead him to one. Once he gets to a town, he does odd jobs, sifts through garbage, and performs on street corners to scrounge up enough money to get him to the next town. He still has his tool belt, most of his tools, Ohmega, Buck, the incomplete I.D. Ball designs, and his pants. Everything else he carries he’s found on his wandering journey. Now he plays his electric guitar on the street corners of Gigarte, hoping to collect enough money to buy himself a better pair of pants before embarking on his new goal.

He has recently decided that despite all his walking, he’s never going to get anywhere if he doesn’t know where he’s going. So, he now plans on searching for a geneticist who would be willing to go into business with him to complete his pokeball design. With the release of the Repeat Ball, Mack realizes that what he currently has designed is obsolete. However, he believes that with some modifications to his current blueprints, and the assistance of a geneticist, he can modify the I.D. Ball to increase its capture rate for each pokemon the owner has of the same type by collecting different genetic samples from each individual pokemon. He has dubbed this new ball the Horde Ball, since it would be more effective catching one’s third pokemon of the same type, then even more effective at catching one’s fourth pokemon of the same type, and so on and so forth. However, it would not be as effective as a Repeat Ball at catching one’s second pokemon of the same type, at least without further improvements.

But until then, any song requests?

Sorry that there's a bunch of extra stuff in the starting pokemon section, it just helps me stay organized.

Also, I looked around and haven’t seen anything about any large companies existing in Furoh, which is why I invented there being a subsidiary of Sylph Co. for my character to work for. If I need to change that to a more local company, just let me know which one.

Ok, this is the last bit of mortar in this wall of text. walloftext.gif
