They don't get the recognition they deserve, so in turn... A group was born. A group for people that love Steel types of all shapes and sizes and appreciate their beauty, strength, and determination. The people in this group see Steel type Pokémon differently than all of the others. To them, Steel type Pokémon aren't just tools for battle, but they are also partners and best friends. We...are those people. We realize that it takes courage to sacrifice speed and put your faith in power alone, even if it could result in devastating defeat, so we call ourselves...

It doesn't matter if you love one or all Steel types; As long as you truly admire them, you are welcome to join. We are a friendly group, meaning we don't have enemies or allies, because we prefer balance and equality. So if you happen to like Fire types or any other types in addition to Steel, you can still join. There will be monthly contests and polls, so be sure to check the thread often if you're interested. Prizes and special ranks are given to winners, too! And even if you won't win, don't worry; active members gain ranks as well. Just be sure to stick around and post as much as you like.

Current Contests

The Nerves of Steel initiation Drawing Contest
The Nerves of Steel Drawing Contest (August '09) is underway, and you know what that means. It's time to grab your pencils, paint brushes, crayons, markers, or whatever sparks your artistic imagination and get to work! Only group members are permitted to participate, but don't worry, it's never too late to join! Just fill out the form in the first post and submit it. Also, be sure to read the rules and guidelines before entering.
They are as follows:

Pens (all kinds)
Pencils (colored, charcoal and lead only)
Crayons (all kinds)
Markers and Sharpies (all kinds)
Liquid Paper (all kinds)
Magic Tape (all kinds)
Paint and Paint Brushes (all kinds)
Paper (all kinds; try to avoid construction paper or any dark colored papers for the sake of appearance)
All Programs and Sites (Photoshop, GIMP, Artpad, etc.)
Your Imagination (you'll need it!)

Rules

1. Your entry must be submitted from 8/16/09 through 9/16/09.
2. Do not post your entry in the thread. Instead, PM it to WTF, Marquis de Lafayette and Darkrow.
3. No sprites, please. This is the Drawing Contest, not the Spriting Contest.
4. The theme this time is the group's new mascot, so please include it in your drawing. The mascot is Skarmory.
5. You can only enter once, so make sure you're truly happy with your picture before submitting it.
6. Artwork containing ANY inappropriate content (nudity, discriminative language, explicit violence) will be rejected without any hesitation.

How do we decide who wins? Simple!
All entries are reviewed by WTF, Marquis de Lafayette, and Darkrow confidentially. Together, we each decide which entries will make it on to the elimination round. All artwork is chosen based on detail, originality, creativity, and overall appeal. The number of proceeding contestants can range anywhere from 5 to 10. It all depends on how many contestants we have total. In the elimination round, the chosen entries will be displayed on the first page with a poll where people can vote for them. There is first, second and third place, since it would be far too difficult to decide on only one winner. And all three winners will earn the Iron Artist rank! If your work doesn't win, please don't be offended. Once the contest has ended, all entries will be displayed on the first page for the rest of the month with credit given to the artists for everyone to see! If, for some reason, you do not want your work to be displayed, please contact Darkrow and ask him to remove it.

Drawing contests are, like their name says, contests to see who can draw Steel Type pokémon better. They are simple, me or Justice will give a pokémon to draw and you simply draw it and post it here!
Spriting contests are contests related to sprites. We may ask you to do a splice of Steel Type pokémon or recolor a specific pokémon. Easy, right?
Finally, Competitive contests are battling contests, tournaments. When we announce the contest you will be able to sign up for it and fight online! There's one catch though, you must have at least one Steel Type pokémon in your team! Rules may vary though.
Prizes can vary depending on the contest.

Alright, how about we start a little discussion?

We'll start with the basics, what is your favorite Steel Type pokémon and why? Easy, no? XD

Mine's Mawile (Obviously) because it's the only non-legendary pure Steel Type pokémon. Also because I like it's design (Having jaws sprouting out of its head) and because many images depict it as ultra-cute, like the Dancing Mawile in my sig.

Hm... there are several reasons I prefer skarmory, all of which I really need to think about to pin down.

First off, it's been a great help to me in battling. It's a very solid pokemon, and while it does have weaknesses to a couple of common attack types, a lot of the time it can beat up other pokemon with nary a scratch.

Second, I've always like birds... not sure why, but probably their elegance and freedom as well as their varied appearances. They're very interesting animals.

Third... I find steel to be intriguing as a type, and somewhat neglected as opposed to other types such as fire and dark. Also, steel just feels... solid, strong, steady, durable... able to face all challenges.

Last of all... what's there not to like about a person-sized bird with knives for feathers?

Other faves in order: Dialga, Scizor, Beldum family, and the rest kind of are jumbled in order...

You all probably knew this already, but my favorite is Steelix.

There are a lot of things I like about it, for example its defense stat is the second highest of all PKMN, tying with Regirock at 200, and only surpassed by Shuckle at 230. It may be slow in battle, but it's defense and attack stats make up for it. When battling in the games, I usually save Steelix for last. He's like a guaranteed plan B for me that never fails, even against Fire types. Sure, he's weak against them, but every Fire Blast only knocks about 50 HP off of him, and he has around 300 - 350 HP. That gives me enough time to knock out the opposing Fire type with a Rock Slide. Or Earthquake if it isn't a Flying type, as well.

Hm, let's see... Well, I think another reason why I like Steelix is because in the Pokédex, he's listed as an "Iron Snake Pokémon," and I've always liked snake-like Pokémon such as Seviper, Ekans, etc. I even prefer Dragonair over Dragonite because of its form. So I believe its appearance plays a big role in why I like it so much. It's also really shiny. ;3

In fact, I think it's Steelix's overall features that I like. Its call sounds freaking awesome in the games (especially 4th gen, since they've made it longer), how big it is (the second biggest Pokémon, Wailord being first), and how sinister is always looks. I've always liked sinister looking Pokémon, not sure why.

My other favorite Steel types are (in this order from Steelix): Skarmory, Scizor, and Empoleon.
