Name: Annika 'Anni' Armide (pronounced 'ar-mi-DE')
Age: 15
Hometown: Goldenrod City, Johto

Appearance: Annika is actually short by average standards at five foot five, but is actually one of the taller members of her family. She's a good weight for her age, not to thin but not generous around the middle, either, which is a good thing considering she never was very athletic before becoming a trainer. Good genetics have given her a lithe body type like most of the rest of her family. Anni has long reddish-brown hair that would reach the middle of her back if it wasn't kept up and off her neck in a ponytail, and dark brown eyes that easily show her feelings. Her skin is on the fair side so she keeps it well protected from the sun.

She can become self-conscious during times when its required to wear less than her favorite outfit; purple tee with black collar and trim, light blue denim jeans with black half-leggings, more purple in her Running Shoes and wide brim floppy hat, and a short white jacket thrown over to complete her look. Her glasses are a necessary evil, as she would be blind as a Zubat without them. Anni's learn to deal with having them, though, and her parents gave her a special pair that were resistant to breaking for her travels. However, she has been known to leave them in odd places.

Finally, Annika would be absolutely lost without her green satchel bag. This favorite of her accessories amazingly has a pocket for everything and still can be thrown over one shoulder! She wonders how they make them so much bigger on the inside...

Personality: When you first meet Annika, she can come off as a rather quiet type, almost shy. This is true around people she does not know very well, for the most part. Once someone warms up to Anni, or does the opposite and provokes her, it becomes very easy for her to express emotions and feelings.

Overall she is an easy person to get along with and can be rather practical in certain situations. Still, with being a rather average adolescent girl, Anni is prone to wearing her heart on her sleeve. Happiness and joy come with great enthusiasm and a sunny outlook, with sadness comes a great gray cloud that seems to linger over her face and body language, and anger brings a passionate fury balanced with strong determination.

One thing she tends to keep close to her chest is her privileged childhood. Anni comes from what many would consider a rich family, and she does not want that to color other peoples' opinion of her. She will remain very vague about anything to do with her family and the charge account card she carries for any expenses needed while traveling.

Annika has yet to face her first real trainer battle against an actual opponent, only battling against the occasional wild Pokémon, so is unaware of how she will react in a fighting situation. She hopes to overcome this after arriving in Furoh.

She also can be a hopeless romantic at times and believes in true love.

Biography: The Armide clan have lived and raised Pokémon in the Johto region for generations and produced a long and honorable line of Pokémon trainers and breeders. When the new generation, Annika, was born there was no question to her father's family as to what her future would be.

Anni had the privilege of belonging to an extended and well-to-do family and was spared no benefit of this. She, her mother, and her father resided in an upper-middle class apartment in Goldenrod, overlooking part of the coastline and with a view of the famed Radio Tower. Her general schooling consisted of various tutors that were brought into their home for private lessons, and though she had no siblings to share this life with companions were never in short supply. She and many of her neighbor's children would spend weekends at the nearby Daycare and Moo Moo Milk Farm playing and learning about the various Pokémon working there.

At the age of ten, Anni watched as many of her friends left Goldenrod City with their first partner Pokémon and began grand adventures all their own. The youngest Armide, however, could only dream about starting out on her own one day as her mother, who had married into the family, did not want her only daughter to leave home at such a young age. Her parents fought over the situation but in the end it was decided Annika would wait five more years.

Heartbroken, Anni made a promise to herself the night of her tenth birthday; when she did leave to become a trainer, she would travel to a brand new land, one none of her family or friends have ever seen and compete to be a master in her own right. She would have the best adventure of all...

Five years later, as promised, Annika and her mother and father traveled all the way to New Bark Town to pay a visit to Professor Elm and his selection of starter Pokémon. Elm welcomed Anni to the world of Pokémon training and introduced her to the three types she could choose from. First was Cyndaquil, a little Fire-type who could blast flame attacks from its back. Anni thought it was cute and held her hand out to pet the creature. Cyndaquil, however, was scared of the newcomer and rolled into a tight ball, refusing any other interactions.

Next Elm led Anni out of the lab and to a pond where the Professor kept the Water types, including Totodile, the Big Jaw Pokémon. Again Anni tried to say hello but was met with a low level Water Gun to the face.

Soaked and feeling hopeless, Annika was ready to call it quits for another year until she noticed a large green leaf poking out of a flower patch. Moving closer, she found the leaf was attached to another Pokémon, Chikorita. This Grass type didn't hide or try to attack the young girl, instead walking closer and sniffing at the human curiously. Heartened, Anni held out her hand and spoke softly, hoping not to spook it. This was enough to prove she was friendly to the Chikorita and it jumped on her lap, releasing a pleasing aroma from its leaf. This was the start of a wonderful friendship between Pokémon and Trainer.

Partner in hand, Annika returned to Goldenrod to buy traveling supplies and for a happy yet tearful goodbye with many members of her family that had gathered for the occasion. Her grandfather, one of the leading fossil experts in the Johto region, presented his granddaughter with a present for good luck; the first Old Amber he had dug up after he left for his journey. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Anni hugged the old man around the neck and promised to find a way to revive the Pokémon somehow, someday.

After the last hugs and kisses, Annika started north out of the city with Chikorita by her side. Destination: Olivine Harbor to catch a ferry.

Along the way Anni and Chikorita came across very few wild Pokémon and battled when they could, but one encounter stood out from the rest. In the middle of the route they found a small prickly purple creature with four stubby legs and rather big ears. It was crying pitifully at the sky, though it seemed to be in good health. Quickly Annika pulled out the Pokédex and scanned before it could notice her presence. The computerized voice informed the novice trainer that this was a female variety Nidoran, a small Poison type that could release a wicked Toxic attack when angered.

Anni decided on the spot that the Nidoran would make a perfect addition to their team and sent out Chikorita for combat. The battlers were evenly matched at the time and the Nidoran almost escaped capture until, at the very last moment, Chikorita leveled up and learned a new attack, Razor Leaf. This proved enough to weaken the Nidoran and allow Anni a chance to throw a Poké Ball for the capture.

Elated when the Ball held her newest team member, Anni and Chikorita began to celebrate the capture until another Pokémon ran into the path, growling in their direction. The Pokédex identified this one as a Nidoran, too, but male with larger poison barbs and a darker pinkish purple color. It didn't take long for Annika to figure out that her female Nidoran had been calling for the male one to come and join her, but by the time she had decided to capture this one as well, it had ran back into the tall grass.

Anni felt bad for her Nidoran, since she had taken it away from its friend, but felt it best if she didn't just release it back into the wild. The rest of the way to Olivine City she and Chikorita attempted to make it up by convincing Nidoran that they could be friends as well, but the Poison type only warmed up somewhat to its new trainer, remaining forlorn and off by itself at meal times.

Two days later Olivine City and its Harbor were in sight. Our heroine wasted no time in running into the city and booking a ticket on the next ferry out. One quick stop by the PokéCenter and PokéMart and Annika Armide was finally ready to truly begin her real adventure; exploring a place called Furoh.

Uprising Mod

Hmm... Well thought out, very well written... the pokemon are not over powered...

I am wary of the old amber, but so long as you get mod approval for the reviving of the Aerodactyl, I see no reason not to have it (after all, that step was skipped entirely in the anime).

Approved. Please post to the Current Levels thread in the PANE Discussion forum, and enjoy PANE!
